Arrival in Cajamarca. Transfer from the airport to the
hotel. City tour. The city of Cajamarca offers its
visitors lovely churches, representing diverse
religious orders, built during the part of the colonial
era from the 17th century through middle of the 18th.
Visitors can appreciate the Church of San Antonio de
Padua (also known as the San Francisco Church), the
Santa Catalina Church, or the Cathedral of
Cajamarca. The Belen (Bethlehem) Monument
Complex, which includes the Church of Our lady of Piety,
is quite possibly the most interesting example of
Cajamarcan architecture to be found, with its
carved rock expression of the fusion of the Andean
and Spanish cultures.

The Cuarto del Rescate, or Ransom Room, is the last
vestige of Inca influence that has been preserved in
Cajamarca, but is nonetheless one of the most important
archeological treasures in northern Peru. True, this
small enclosure served physically as the storage room
for the gold and silver treasures offered by the Incas
in exchange for the freedom of their Emperor, the Inca
Atahualpa. But in the larger sense, it represents the
end of one of the most important and distinct cultural
epochs in human history, and the beginning of the
colonization and cultural transformation of Peru.
Depart from the hotel to the Cochambul area.
Then three hours hike to the peasant community of San
Nicolás, where the largest natural lake in the
department of Cajamarca is located.
Hike to the top of the Coyor hill to visit the Coyor
Fortress. Coyor was the last Caxamarca fortress to
resist the Inca invasion of the valley of Cajamarca. The
fall of Coyor represents the end of the Caxamarca epoch
and the beginning of the Inca Period.
Boxed-lunch after the visit to the fortress.
Return to the hotel in Cajamarca by car.

Two
hours drive from the hotel to the small village of
Combayo.
Then five hours hike following the Inca trail to Sangal.
Following the trail we will encounter the archeological
site of Necropolis of Combayo. This Necropolis is
the most important archaeological complex that remains
from the vast history of the Cajamarca culture. Nearly
3500 years old, it is also one of the oldest cemeteries
found in Peru. Carved in solid rock, this network of
small funerary caves is known both as the "Ventanillas
de Combayo" and as the "Necrópolis de Combayo".
Boxed-lunch in the peasant community of Laurel del
Valle.
The
hike ends in the community of Sangal where we’ll be able
to appreciate a nice patch of undisturbed natural
vegetation with lots of endemic species of flora and
birds.
Return to the hotel in Cajamarca by car.
