Mejia lagoons are part
of the National sanctuary ( protected reserve) .
At 08:00 you will be picked up from your hotel
and we will go towards the coast of Arequipa, crossing
the dessert with some dunes, via the south Panamericana
highway: at 150 Km. and 1:30 hours .
We will first pass close to the Matarani port,
continuing with the visit of Mollendo beach and 20
minutes far away we will see the Mejía lagoons, one of
the few places in the world considered as a habitat for
many Migratory and endemic Birds and declared Peruvian
National Sanctuary, very important for ornithologists
and birdwatchers. There is an inventory of more than 150
species of birds like coastal birds ( land and sea
birds), Well protected by law and scientists. Some of
them: Western sandpiper, Yellow legged egret, coastal
tern, Peruvian diving-petrel, southern fulmar,
silver-gray petrel and some flamingos; little blue heron
, etc. Returning to Arequipa we can stop for a good
lunch based on fish or seafood in Mollendo City( not
included).
